Diversity may be a suspect word now, but it characterizes Dr. Lieberman’s life. She has a master’s in city planning from Berkeley but never worked as a city planner, earned a Ph.D. in public policy from the U of Pittsburgh and only tangentially did policy work. She is also a certified life and retirement coach, and an ordained interfaith minister, which, if you know her, is an anomaly.
Because Dr. Lieberman and her husband moved multiple times for his career, it led to her work advising corporations on philanthropy, leading an association of precollegiate independent schools, managing community affairs for the Houston controller and running a Rice U undergrad leadership program. The through line has always been writing what is now 13 non-fiction books. The most recent ones, In the Country of Old and Older Still, are essays on aging.
Seven years ago, the Liebermans moved to La Jolla, CA. Now she is spending an inordinate amount of time managing her body plus having coffee with friends. She feels so lucky to be free enough of work to be able to spend time her way.
